Review: Airflo Ridge 2.0 Clear Tip Universal & Tactical Taper Fly Lines

Ridge 2.0 is a texture technology that produces lines with raised, rounded ridges along the length of the line. These smooth-top ridges reduce contact with the snake guides to help the line shoot more efficiently (and quietly) to the target.

The newest clear-tip lines from Airflo use these ridges to help you make longer casts, or to make fewer false casts when you’re dealing with spooky fish. The Clear Tip Universal comes in weights 7 through 12, has a 9-foot clear tip, and a taper with a shorter belly designed to load the rod and get your fly to the target quickly. The Clear Tip Tactical comes in weights 6 through 12, has a 12-foot clear tip, and a much longer 51-foot head. It’s best for bright sunny afternoons when you can see the fish from a distance, but they are spooky, and you have to make careful, long-range presentations. The rear of the Clear Tip Universal is aqua, the Clear Tip Tactical is a subtle sand color.
