Atttaching the Label

Step 1. Slide the open end of the premade loop over the fly line to the doubled section of the braid. Using the bobbin, whip-finish the end of the braid to the fly line with a 10- to 20-turn knot and trim any loose ends (figure one).

Step 2.Apply a second whip knot 1"-1.5" (a space slightly larger than the size of your label) from the first knot towards the end loop to form a "label zone".

Step 3.Coat only the knots and the area between them with the coating material, and allow it to dry.

Step 5.While the coating material is drying, trim your computer printed label (or the manufacturer's sticker) to a size to fit between the whip knots.

Step 6.You are now ready to apply the line label. Pre-contour the label by rolling it lengthwise around your bodkin, then roll the label around the fly line between the two whip knots. When in the desired position, coat the label with the coating material and allow to dry (figure five).

Step 7. (optional) You may find it helpful to first immerse the label in the coating, allowing the paper to become saturated, prior to applying the label to the fly line. You can apply a second coat later for increased durability and to assure a smooth transition through the rod guides. Your neatly marked line is now ready to fish!
