Micro-cable flies.

Wire is used as ribs and bodies of flies and can be used to help weight or to reinforce bodies. Gold, copper, and silver are the most common. The Brassie, a popular caddis and midge pupa imitation, uses wire for the body and peacock herl or dubbing for the thorax.

Wapsi has added a wide spectrum of new coated wire colors. These wires, available in three sizes, can be use to make a variety of nymphs.

Micro-Cable wire from Doug's Bugs is another new wire product. This mini cable comes in many colors including some nice multi-colors. It can be wrapped or braided. The flexible cable is easier to work with than solid wire of the same diameter.

Uni Products sells a solid soft wire that is very nice to tie with. Lead-free wire is available to use as weight in areas where there is a lead ban. It is approximately 2/3 the weight of lead.
