The slender design of the Flashy Profile Fly is very similar to the contours of baitfish.

Head-on, the FPF has minimum bulk - a cigarette-paper profile. Side-on, however, the profile is remarkably fish-like, and it stays that way when wet. Since they're constructed entirely from synthetic material, these slender-profile flies won't absorb water, making them light and easy to cast. When the sun hits the fly under water, the FPF's flash resembles the flanks of a baitfish, with the shimmering tail simulating movement and also creating an illusion of sprinkling scales that might be falling from an injured fish. The bottom line is that the FPFs appear to be large, and they give a good impression of movement (even when they're just left to sink), but they have none of the heavy-casting negatives of more traditional, water-holding flies.

Following well-executed teasing techniques, which should excite the fish to the point where they have only to spin around to look for the bait, the FPF should be sinking behind him. We have found that properly-teased billfish rarely hesitate once they have caught a glimpse of an FPF.
